Don't worry, I have a book

Me, my thoughts and my life

Animal Kingdom

on October 7, 2013

Last Friday Vicki and I met her parents at Hilton Bonnet Creek for breakfast.  This 4 Diamond hotel has been open for 4 years now and is a beautiful property just off Disney property.  We all had the buffet for breakfast and it was amazing!!  I was too hungry to take pictures but I promise it was good.  They have the buffet set up in a side room in like 4 stations so that everything flows and you don’t have to stand in line just to pass things you don’t want.  Now, I should mention that I worked her for 3 years so I am slightly prejudice.  You don’t have to take my word though.  Checkout their reviews on TripAdvisor.

imageAfter breakfast we headed to Animal Kingdom for the afternoon.  My favorite things at this park are Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo – The Musical.  In each of these shows are Broadway Style and the actors sing and dance.  The words and songs are done live and not per-recorded.  And to make them even better they are indoors in the air conditioning.  In Florida this is always a plus!

imageOn the ride side we went on Expedition Everest (fast pass!), Dinosaur, and Kilimanjaro Safaris.  Each ride is different and fun in it’s own right.  Everest is a roller coaster with all of the excitement and theatrics of Disney.  I personally find most Disney roller coasters to be rather jerky.  Disney has built most of their roller coasters so that guests and their stuff can go on.  This means that the safety harnesses are usually just lap bars.  Because of this the coasters run on tracks and don’t do all the crazy twists, turns and other acrobatics.  Dinosaur is a cool mix of simulation and roller coaster.  It is hard to describe.

imageI think my favorite ride is the Safaris.  They load everyone into trucks and take you on a tour of the open habitats for the animals.  You get to see a lot of animals in a close approximation of their habitat.  While I love zoos this is different because the animals have more space and the species are not separated but live together.

imageFor dinner that night we went to Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge.  While they do have a full menu the best deal is the Build-Your-Own-All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Platter.  The table (or whoever at the table has chosen this option) picks 3 meats to start with and then you can change meats each time you ask for more.  While the meats are amazing (it’s BBQ how is it not amazing?) I loved all of the sides.  They make a wonderful complement (is that the right spelling?) to the meats.  It is a very family friendly dining experience.  Just a warning, do not ask for ketchup.
