Me, my thoughts and my life

Cutting the (Cable) Ties

on September 16, 2013

About 2 weeks ago I decided to cancel my cable subscription but keep the internet.  I have been thinking about doing this for about a year now but never did.  Saving money was one factor but I also hope that it will encourage me to be more active.  I mainly use the television for noise anyway.  So far that hasn’t happened but it has only been a few weeks and I was in Michigan for part of it.

ABC       CBS

FOX       Syfy

Now, don’t get me wrong.  I have several favorite TV shows that I look forward to(NCIS, NCIS:LA, Haven, Bones, Warehouse 13).  But with the lovely invention called the Internet most networks stream their latest episodes the day after they air.  In addition to the network streaming on the Internet Hulu and Netflix have both movies and TV series available on demand.  Having these options available I don’t really see a need to pay for cable.  Also, have you ever noticed that whenever you do want to watch TV you scroll through the hundreds of channels and can’t find anything to watch?

I also find myself playing games on the computer or on my iPhone just because I am bored.  Instead I should be getting up off the couch and doing something productive or working out.  I have been working on changing my lifestyle to be healthier.  For the last year I have been making better food choices (and have lost 26 pounds!!) but now I need to be more active.  On the weekends I need to get out and walk a nature trail, or go for a bike ride (of course this requires a bike) or go kayaking (again requires a kayak but there are lots of places that rent those).  Now to find someone to enjoy these activities with….

Belle of the Library

... the musings of a BARELY thirty-something, married, Southern librarian with a wildly inappropriate sense of humor, an inability to gauge most emotional cues, a dear best friend since ninth grade, and a stubborn, mouthy, redheaded country boy to accompany her through life.
